Effect of Zero-Sap Antiwear/Ep Lubricant Additives on Nano-Mechanical Properties of Tribofilms Formed on AISI 52100 Steel Grade

Numerous nations have recently passed stricter environmental legislation due to excessive release of harmful emissions like sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), and zinc (Zn) in conventional lubricating oil additives used contemporary internal combustion engines. Use borate ester lubricant with no sulfated ash, phosphorus, or effect (zero-SAPS) is one way reduce this effect. The resistance tribofilms from oils containing esters on AISI 52100 steel grade plastic deformation not entirely understood, yet. This study compares Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate (ZDDP) the tribological performance Nano-mechanical behavior made each antiwear/extreme pressure Polyalphaolefin (PAO6) base oil. According test findings a reciprocating pin-on-steel plate sliding rig, boundary films formed by reduced friction wear manner similar that ZDDP. On scar, Nano-indentation technique was characterize properties tribofilms. ratios elastic modulus hardness (E’/H) for both are only higher than substrate but also comparable shows boron-containing offered ZDDP-like ability absorbed frictional energy when moving across asperity contacts.
